#TheFeministFight weekly round-up: Misogynist backlash, fifty shades of rape, and the importance of

Emma Watson? Jennifer Lawrence? These aren’t the feminists you’re looking for The Guardian

“There is nothing wrong with celebrities (or men) claiming feminism and talking about feminism. I support anything that broadens the message of gender equality and tempers the stigma of the feminist label. We run into trouble, though, when we celebrate celebrity feminism while avoiding the actual work of feminism.”

30 Feminist Lessons in 30 Years Huff Post Women

With lessons slash reminders like, “There is no choice without access” and “Reproductive justice is truly transformative,” this is a list feminists can get behind! 5 stupid, sexist things expected of menSalon

Amen! I am a lover of men. They drive me crazy, and they can be stupid and ignorant and downright disgusting in the choices they make and the thoughts they think, but they can also be beautiful and worldly and thoughtful and treat women like queens. Too often we talk about sexism and inequality and gender norms, but only how those things affect women, not men. ‘Massacre’ threat forces Anita Sarkeesian to cancel university talk The Verge

Anita Sarkeesian, creator of the popular Tropes vs. Women video series, was all set to speak at Utah State University’s Center for Women and Gender on Wednesday until the director of the center (and several other people) received an email promising a mass shooting if they didn’t cancel the speaking engagement. Sarkeesian had to cancel – after requests for firearm searches at the center were denied because of Utah’s relaxed open-carry laws – her speaking engagement because SOME PISSED-OFF LITTLE SHITS WERE SO INTIMIDATED BY HER AND WHAT SHE HAD TO SAY THAT THEY NEEDED TO THREATEN HER AND THOSE AROUND HER. Well, they fucking lost this round because her story has gone viral, and her presence and thoughts and words are more powerful than ever.
